COVID FOODBANK
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Trunks Up partnered with Dr. Jane Goodall to provide emergency food support for thousands of captive elephants across Thailand, helping avert a devastating welfare crisis as tourism came to a standstill and many elephants faced starvation.
OVERVIEW
In March 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic brought Thailand's tourism industry to an abrupt standstill, creating an unprecedented crisis for thousands of captive elephants and the people who cared for them. As tourism revenue disappeared overnight, many elephant camps faced an impossible challenge: how to provide enough food and essential care for their elephants.
In response, Save Elephant Foundation launched an emergency food purchasing and distribution initiative, made possible through the financial support of the Trunks Up Food Bank Campaign. With the support of Dr. Jane Goodall and compassionate donors around the world, the campaign mobilized quickly to deliver lifesaving assistance to elephants in need.
Together, these efforts provided emergency food support to over 200 elephant camps, helping care for 2000+ captive elephants and supporting more than 1,600 elephant keepers during one of the most difficult periods Thailand's elephant community had ever faced. By ensuring elephants continued to receive the nourishment they needed, the campaign helped prevent a devastating welfare crisis while offering hope and stability to the families dedicated to their care.
